Welcome to our book club, where the aim is to make time to relax Sip and Flip. How many times have you indulged in something, whether it be a book, film, series or experience and wished you could really discuss it in depth with someone, and try as you may to describe, it’s just not the same if they haven’t read/watched it themselves. I’m excited to embark on this journey of enriching my mind with these fabulous and provocative reads, whilst having the opportunity to share and hear the thoughts of others. I hope you are too.
It was nice to hear that so many of you shared my enthusiasm about the book club. There was a range of responses from, “I don’t read much, but iv been meaning to start” and “I used to read so much and now I barely read” to “This is great, hopefully it will motivate me to read more”. I was also met with very practical questions such as, “What genre will we be reading?” and “Can I suggest a book?”. The award for the most popular question goes to… “How long will we get to read a book?” and I could just hear the scepticism through the phone.
From the small research I have done the average read time is 1 book a month, however, I happy to not follow the majority in this instance for a few reasons. Firstly, I will probably be one of the first to default if we were bound to the one book a month rule, to me it just seems a bit over ambitious. It may be something we can easily achieve once we are all avid readers (wink, wink), but for now I think somewhere between 6-8weeks would be more attainable. Secondly, I’m more for quality over quantity, so I am happy for us to take our time to digest and depict roughly 6 books rather than hurry our way through 12 books in our first year.
Now that we are all on board, our next unanimous question should be, which book should we read first? My answer is I honestly don’t know, what I do know is that I want to give us all the opportunity to firstly recommend books, and secondly to vote for the first book. Remember I said I wanted this to be fun, well I thought it would be fun for us to vote for each book. Therefore, before we embark on our first book adventure if you have any books in mind please could you send them to me, only one or two for now, there’s plenty of time 😊. ALL genres are welcome, non-fiction, fiction, comedy, suspense, culture, erotic, romance, self-help.
I will then post a blog with the recommended books, we will then all vote. I will then announce the winning book, we will then each purchase the book and officially begin Sipping and Flipping those pages.
